CTET – You need to have good marks and not just clear it

With the next Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) on November 18, 2012, the popularity of the exam with private schools has been increasing rapidly. Though CTET is mandatory to be cleared for government schools, private schools in Delhi NCR are also taking the rule as sacrosanct, and abiding by it.
As per our interviews with various principals of reputed private schools in Delhi, Gurgaon and NOIDA, we came to know about the following points, regarding their take on CTET:
  • Schools are now asking new applicants to attach their CTET mark sheets along with their CVs.
  • They are also giving weightage to CTET scores – which mean that applicants with high CTET scores have better recruitment chances.
Though the rule book only says that one should be CTET cleared in order to be recruited by the schools, the schools are also considering the CTET scores of applicants.
And this has also become a norm with government schools. Figure depicted below is from a recruitment advertisement by Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan Society, Chandigarh (UT). The picture clearly shows that TET score (CTET is applicable in Chandigarh) has 50% weightage in total marks considered in selection criteria. This implies that a person having high CTET score will have better chances of getting recruited than the one, who has just managed to clear CTET.
